Fairland, St. Albans team winners at first Ironton Cross Country Festival

There has been cross country at Ironton for decades, but Saturday was the first home meet in more than 30 years as the Ironton Fighting Tigers hosted the first annual Tiger Town Cross Country Festival.

Winning the girls’ meet was the Fairland Lady Dragons with 20 points followed by the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers with 48 points. St. Albans (W.Va.) was third with 86 followed by the Coal Grove Lady Hornets with 92.

On the boys’ side, St. Albans had 21 points while the South Point Pointers finished with 36.

The overall individual winners were South Point Lady Pointers’ Sarah Letchford with a 20:50 time and Coal Grove’s Jacob Pauley had an 18:16 clocking.

The Lady Dragons were led by Shanan Ashton who was second at 21:02. Also placing for Fairland were Megan Ashton (21:44) at No. 4, Jessica Price (21:47) at No. 5, Sarah Warnock (22:31) at No. 6 and Sydney Pettit (23:18) at No. 8.

Savanah Nelson (24:43) was No. 11, Faith Hurula (25:07) No. 14 and Carrie Tanner (27:08) was No. 22.

Ironton’s Ariel Schweickart finished third with a 21:37 time.

The Lady Tigers Kaylie Sturgill (24:38) was No. 10 followed by Brookyn Shope (24:43) at No. 12, Maggie Thomas (24:44) at No.13, Shannon Walker (25:18) at No. 15, Colleen Walker (25:25) at No. 16, Hannah Cronacher (25:33) at No. 17,, Ashton McMackin (25:37) at No. 18, Macy Wise (26:59) at No. 21, and Sara Connell (34:19) at No. 31.

Coal Grove’s Sami Stormes was ninth with a 24:02 time. The Lady Hornets’ Katey Erwin (26:15) was No. 19, Leah Crum (28:18) was No. 24, Kim Short (29:47) was No. 27, Morgan Sites (31:19) was No. 28 and Brittany Webb (31:26) was No.29.

Fairland beat Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph in both the boys and girls middle school meets.
