Saddle Up for St. Jude event to raise funds for kids battling cancer

SCOTTOWN — Trail riders will Saddle Up for St. Jude at an event on Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at Paddle Creek Horse Camp, Lake Vesuvius in Pedro. Lawrence County Chapter of Ohio Horseman’s Council is organizing the trail ride, which will raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.

“Every child saved at St. Jude means children saved around the world – a direct result of cutting-edge research and treatment that set the standard in treating deadly childhood diseases,” said Charlie Whitt, coordinator of the event. “Through events like Saddle Up for St. Jude, Tri-state residents support the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving children everywhere.”

This volunteer-based horseback trail-riding event will feature a 10 mile trail ride followed by an auction and meal. Riders will get sponsors to support them by making a donation, If you are not a rider you can still come participate in the auction. Bring an item and donate it to the auction.

St. Jude depends on community-based fundraising programs like Saddle Up for St. Jude. At St. Jude, families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance and no child is ever denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay. The daily operating cost for St. Jude is $1.7 million, which is primarily covered by public contributions.
