SOUTH POINT — The Division of State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that a fire in South Point is the result of arson, according to a release.
The blaze was reported at a single family home at 37 Township Road 1426 art 12:46 a.m. Monday.
Investigators were able to eliminate accidental causes and found specific evidence that indicates the fire was intentionally set.
Certain information, including how the fire was set, will not be released because this is an ongoing criminal investigation. The fire started on the front porch of the home, according to the fire marshal.
A Blue Ribbon Arson Reward of up to $5,000 is being offered to anyone with information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for the fire.
Anyone with information should contact the Division of State Fire Marshal at 1-800-589-2728. The State Fire Marshal considers all tips valuable and wants to hear from anyone who has information, no matter how small or insignificant the information may seem to the individual.
Three people — two adults and one child — were home at the time of the fire, but all occupants were able to escape without injury after one of them heard a noise and discovered the fire, according to the release. It is unknown if smoke alarms were present. The home was heavily damaged by the fire.
The Fayette Township Fire Department is assisting with the investigation.
