COLUMBUS — Mark LaFon has another job, but he’s keeping the other two as well.
The Ironton High School athletic director and boys’ head basketball coach, LaFon was recently elected a spot on the Southeast Ohio District Athletic Board as the ethnic-minority representative.
“I wanted to run for a board position the last three or four years,” LaFon said. “I don’t know everything the position entails, but I’ll talk to some other people and find out all the particulars.”
LaFon fills the void on the board left by the recent death of Chillicothe athletic director Rey Bradley. The term is good until 2013.
In other Ironton news, LaFon said the ninth game of the football schedule has tentatively been filled by Simon Kenton, a Class 6-A football power in Kentucky.
The Pioneers were 10-3 last season and they won the district title before losing 35-14 to Ryle in the playoffs.
Also elected to another term on the district board was Logan superintendent Steve Stirn, the former Ironton St. Joseph graduate, three-sport standout and head football coach.
Stirn earned more votes than two other candidates, Waverly athletic director Bo Arnett and Unioto principal James Osborne.
