Howard W. “Slick” Spicer

ENGLEWOOD — Howard W. “Slick” Spicer, 85, of Englewood, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011. Howard was born in Ironton to the late Howard and Mildred (Houchin) Spicer and grew up along the banks of the Ohio River.
Howard served in the U.S. Navy and was a proud WWII veteran. He was a graduate of Defiance College where he was a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. He retired after 32 years as a teacher and coach with the Marengo, North Robinson, Butler, Byron (MI), Piketon, Northmont and Wayne school districts.
He was also a member of the Valleyview Church in Englewood. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Bell) Spicer; children and their spouses, Jim (Cindy) Spicer of West Chester, Jill (Dan) Burnett of Englewood, Jerry (Gail) Spicer of Clayton and Jo Lynn (Jeff) Fox of West Milton; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Spicer of Texas; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Harry Spicer and sister, Catherine Muche.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kindred Funeral Home, 400 Union Boulevard, Englewood, with Pastor Richard Curtis officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Englewood. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
