WILLOW WOOD — A 24-year-old Willow Wood man was killed as he was trying to secure a truck to a trailer.

Cecil Cole III was declared dead at the scene by Drew Artis of the Lawrence County Coroner’s office early Tuesday afternoon.

Cole and a friend had a Ford pickup truck that they were trying to haul to a scrap yard.

“They were taking an old junk truck to scrap it and get a few dollars,” Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. “The truck was on the trailer and they were trying to put it on the trailer better. He got underneath it and the weight shifted on the truck and crushed him.”

The sheriff’s office got the call at 1:45 p.m. The accident happened near the 9800 mile marker of State Route 141.
