Jonathan Williams wasn’t unhittable. But he was close.
The Ironton senior pitcher fired a one-hitter and struck out 13 batters as the Fighting Tigers posted a 5-0 win over the South Point Pointers Monday.
Williams did not walk a batter but he did hit one.
“Jonathan threw the ball really well. He let one pitch get away from him, but otherwise he had great command of his pitches,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. “Offensively we hit the ball all day, but we hit it right at them.”
Ironton had eight hits with Tyler Salyers going 2-3 and Tommy Waginger 2-4.
The Fighting Tigers scored all their runs in the fourth inning.
Salyers singled to start the inning and stole second base. Jordan McMaster then singled him home and went to second on an outfield error.
Nick Culbertson singled home McMaster and Brandon Leach followed with a walk. Sean lawless hit into a force play but Pierce Reeves reached on an error as Leach scored.
Waginger then tripled home two runs and scored on an outfield error to cap the rally.
Kyle Winkler doubled leading off the seventh inning to spoil the no-hit bid.
Ironton plays St. Joseph Tuesday.
