The Vikings turned in a strong all-around performance as they beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 13-1 Monday in a key Southern Ohio Conference game.

The Vikings improved to 5-6 overall but 4-2 in the SOC as they handed Notre Dame its first league loss.

Nathan Dockery pitched a four-hitter in going the distance. He struck out eight and walked two.

The Vikings — who had just one error — banged out 14 hits with Cody Myers going 3-4 with a double and Luke Taylor 2-5 with a home run and four runs batted in.

“This is the best game we’ve played all year,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “Our defense has been exceptional the past two games.”

After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings got two in the second.

Jacob Patterson reached on an error, stole second and Alec Herrell singled him home. Evan Herrell walked and an error allowed a run to score.

Myers singled, Dockery and Patterson walked and Alec Herrell doubled as the lead went to 5-0 in the third.

The Vikings got four runs in the fourth inning when Hunter Boggs walked, Myers doubled, Dockery had an RBI single and Taylor unloaded a three-run homer.

Four more runs scored in the seventh.

Zach Runyon and Jorddan Fulford singled and Dockery doubled for a run. Taylor and Patterson singled home runs and Dillon Pelletier hit a sacrifice fly.

On Friday, Mitchell Corn pitched a two-hitter as the Vikings beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 11-1 in six innings.

Corn struck out 10, did not walk a batter and hit four to get the win.

“Mitchell is only a sophomore but he threw a pretty good game,” Renfroe said.

Taylor was 2-3 as eight different players collected hits.

Dockery doubled home a run in the first inning and Alec Herrell singled, stole second and scored on an error in the second.

A hit batsman, two errors and Pelletier’s sacrifice fly scored two runs in the third and three runs scored in the fourth on a walk to Dockery, hits by Evan Herrell and Corn and Taylor’s two-run single.

In a four-run sixth inning, Fulford singled, Boggs walked, Taylor had an RBI double, Patterson a two-run single and Corey Brown an RBI single.

The Vikings play at Chesapeake on Tuesday.
