SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Defensive end Aaron Lynch nearly stole the show at Notre Dame’s annual Blue-Gold game, surprising fans who came to see quarterbacks battle for the starting job.
Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix quarterbacked the Gold team to a 17-14 victory over the Blue team led by Dayne Crist and Everett Golson on Saturday, when Lynch finished with six tackles, including 1½ for loss, and a quarterback hurry.
The highly recruited 6-foot-6, 260-pound Lynch enrolled at Notre Dame after graduating high school early.
Hendrix had the best game among the quarterbacks, going 10 for 16 for 139 yards and scoring twice, on a 15-yard run in the third quarter and a 10-yard run in the fourth.
Running back Cierre Wood gained 39 yards on seven carries.
Bishop Dwenger grads Tyler Eifert and John Goodman teammed up for the Blue squad. Eifert didn’t have any catches in the game. Goodman scored the only touchdown for Blue with a 15-yard catch from Everett Golson. Goodman finished with three receptions for 30 yards.
