Strong hitting backs Bruce’s pitching as Redmen rout Raiders

BIDWELL — While Jared Bruce was hard to hit, that’s all his teammates could do.

Bruce fired a 3-hitter and his Rock Hill teammates banged out 14 hits en route to a 13-3 five-inning win over the River Valley Raiders Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Bruce struck out 10, walked two and only two runs were earned as he got the win.

Cody Massie was 3-3, Shane Russell 3-4 and Devin Darby 2-3 to lead the Rock Hill offense.

“Jared threw real well the entire game,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral. “It was nice to get to play again. We need to string some games together.”

Rock Hill (4-0, 1-0) plays at Chesapeake Thursday in a league game.

Russell singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Drew Kidd. Jon Schob then doubled, Massie singled, Chris Donohue walked and Darby had a two-run single.

The lead went to 5-0 in the second inning.

Ryan Depriest ws hit by a pitch and scored on a hit by Russell who stole second and third and scored himself on a passed ball.

Rock Hill blew the game open with five runs in the third.

Donohue walked and scored on a hit by Depriest. Bruce singled, Russell had a two-run hit and he scored on an error.

The Redmen got a run in the fourt on hits by Massie and Donohue and Darby’s sacrifice fly.

Nick McGuire singled and scored on Massie’s hit in the fifth. Massie stole second and Darby had a run-scoring single.
