VANCEBURG, Ky. — Down but in now way were they out.
Despite falling behind 6-1 after three innings, the Rock Hill Redmen rallied to beat the Lewis County Lions 9-6 in eight innings Friday.
“We got down four or five runs, but the kids didn’t doubt sweat it. They kept fighting back,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
Sparking the comeback were Jon Schob and Cody Massie who combined to go 6-for-7 with three doubles and four runs batted in. Schob was 4-4 with a double and an RBI while Massie was 2-3 with two doubles and three RBI.
Ryan Hackworth got the win in relief of Jared Bruce as he struck out seven, gave up only two hits, did not allow a run and did not walk a batter.
“Other than the one miscue in the first inning, we played great defense. Our pitching was good. Jared Bruce threw well he just ran into some back luck,” said Litteral.
The Lions got three runs in the first but the Redmen got a run in the second when Matt Jenkins reached on an error and Chris Donohue singled.
But Lewis County scored two in the bottom of the inning and one in the third.
Rock Hill (3-0) bounced back with four runs in the fourth to get within 6-5.
Donohue, Ryan Depriest and Shane Russell all singled and Drew Kidd doubled to clear the bases. Schob singled and Massie had an RBI double.
The Redmen tied the game in the sixth when Bruce singled, Russell hit into a fielder’s choice and Schob singled.
The winning rally began with two outs in the eighth inning.
Kidd singled, Schob walked and Massie delivered a two-run double. Devin Darby singled to drive in an insurance run.
