A trial has been postponed in the case of a man accused of assaulting his 2-year-old son.
William Estep, 22, of 102 N. Jones St., Proctorville, now faces a jury trial April 25 in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
The trial was postponed from its previous date of April 4 after Judge Charles Cooper granted a continuance.
Estep is alleged to have picked up the boy and thrown him into a large wooden portion of a wall, where the boy hit his head, according to Detective Aaron Bollinger of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
The man then allegedly took the boy to the bottom of some steps and made up a story about him falling down the stairs, Bollinger said. He later confessed to the crime, Bollinger said.
The boy suffered brain damage and was partially paralyzed, Bollinger said.
Estep is charged with second-degree felonious assault, third-degree tampering with evidence and second-degree endangering children.
If convicted, Estep faces up to eight years in prison for each of the second-degree felonies and up to five years for the third-degree felony.
Cooper would decide if the sentences would be served concurrently or consecutively.
A pretrial hearing has been set for April 6 before the April 25 trial.
