Wayne Sparks is just warming up.
The Former Coal Grove Hornets’ standout pitcher is just starting his college career and it appears he is picking up where he left off.
A dominating pitcher for the Hornets, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles’ freshman got a win in his first collegiate start.
The 6-foot-3 Sparks started and was one of three pitchers who combined for a no-hitter as the Eagles routed Johnson Bible College 20-1. The Eagles won the opener 12-3.
Playing in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason tournament, Sparks beat Cincinnati Christian University 12-2 and both the runs he allowed were unearned.
The tournament was held in New Albany, IN., on the campus of Indiana Southeastern University.
