PORTSMOUTH — The Teaching and Learning Center and Clark Memorial Library are partnering to host a Festival of Achievement in conjunction with SSU’s 25-Year Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, April 7 that will be on display at the library.

Faculty and staff publications and artwork will be on display in the library. Several faculty members also will be presenting. The Festival of Achievement presentations are:

From 9 to 10 a.m. (some locations to be announced):

·Library Alcove: Levanya Vemsani, Ph.D., associate professor, will present “Ken Saro-Wiowa and the Ogoni People of Nigeria”;

·Brian Richards, adjunct faculty, will be presenting his new book “Enridged,” a collection of poems about natural life surrounding his cabin in the woods;

·Neil Carpathios, Ph.D., assistant professor, will have a poetry reading from his published collections as well as new poems;

·Barbara Bradbury, Ed.D., dean of students, and Brenda Haas, Ed.D. executive director of Ohio Appalachia Center for Higher Learning, will present a brief overview of the theoretical perspective of retention.

From 10 to 11 a.m.:

·Library Alcove: Anthony Dzik, Ph.D., professor, will present “The American Great Plains: Images of an Enigmatic Region”;

·Jim Coleman, senior instructor, will present “Reading Sermons as … Sermons?”;

·Phanindra Upadhyaya, assistant professor, will present “Nationalistic Discourse and Hegemony: Critical Discourse Analysis of Government Sponsored School Textbooks in Nepal Since 1970”;

·Christine Raber, M.S. OTR/L, associate professor, and Dr. Jane Melton, clinical director for the Social Inclusion Program and associate director of Quality at 2gether NHS Foundation Trust will present experiences and strategies that support the development of inter-agency and institutional relationship.

From 11 a.m. to noon:

·Thomas Piontek, Ph.D. assistant professor, will present “Teaching by (Bad) Example.”

·Melody Sands senior instructor, will present “Lighting a Fire with the Appalachian Ohio Think Tank”

·Allyson Klutenkamper, assistant professor, will present “The Narrative Impulse”;

·Shirley Crothers-Marley, M.F.A., adjunct faculty, will present “Who’s the Baby?”; and

·John Valentine, Ph.D., adjunct faculty, Timothy Hamilton, assistant professor, and Chip Poirot, associate professor, will present a panel discussion, “Conscription.”
