Woman stabbed; man facing charges

Calvin L. Carter, 53, of Ironton, is facing charges of domestic violence and felonious assault following a stabbing incident early Saturday morning.

Ironton Police officers responded to a domestic violence call at 2:02 a.m. Saturday at 729 S. Ninth St. When they arrived at the scene, they found a woman on the ground with a man standing over her, according to an IPD press release.

“The male fled and was pursued by officers,” the release stated. “Once officers reached the male, he placed a knife towards his abdomen. He refused officers’ request to relinquish the knife.”

The man sat down in a chair and began to cut himself on the neck with the knife. Officers then Tasered the man.

The man and woman were transported for medical treatment. There are no reports on their conditions. The woman has multiple stab wounds and the man self-inflicted wounds to the neck.

“Because the case is related to domestic violence, the name of the female and where she was sent for medical treatment will not be released at this time,” the release states.

Police are not releasing a motive or the nature of the relationship of the two.
