The county engineer’s office is going high tech as a new website was unveiled at the Lawrence County Commissioners’ Thursday meeting.

“People can access that 24-7,” County Engineer Doug Cade said. “We are moving into the electronic age in our office.”

Residents can get updates on roadwork at www.lawrencecountyengineer.org. Cade also provided the commissioners with a repair request form to be used when they want a road situation addressed. All road repair requests will be put in a database.

“We track all complaints and (the department) looks at it daily and I look at it weekly to see the progress,” Cade said. “Once a complaint is in the database it goes to the superintendent or myself and we check it within two days, usually that same day. I can look in the system and see what we are working on.”

Cade estimates $1.8 million will be required for major repairs and construction of new roads, bridges and culverts in the county.

Included in that will be the paving of Bent Creek Road at a cost of $141,250 plus $2,000 for bridges and culverts; $30,350 for work on Burlington Road, plus $1,000 for bridges and culverts; and $44,150 for paving Sam’s/Walmart Way with $500 for bridges and culverts.

In other business the commissioners:

— Declared the month of March Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month at the request of the Lawrence County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

— Reported the county’s prescription plan has saved consumers $13,523 since it began a year and a half ago with 1,154 prescriptions filled.

— Received the weekly dog warden’s report where 35 dogs were destroyed, 11 were sold and six were redeemed. There are 97 dogs in custody.

— Reappointed Ron Dials, Pat Leighty, Richard Meyers and Brenda Neville to the Lawrence County Planning Commission each for a three-year term ending February 2014.
