Ironton’s Rotary Club will be serving up breakfast for the community this weekend.
The club’s annual pancake breakfast fundraiser is slated for 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the AEP building.
The event is a tradition for the club and its biggest fundraiser of the year, president Jeff Clark said.
(“People) can expect a good breakfast, pancakes, sausages and a lot of good fellowship from the community,” Clark said.
Clark said the club is hoping to host 500 or more people at the breakfast. Tickets are sold in advance, though most people purchase them at the door, he said.
Ray “Doc” Payne, a past president and long-time sergeant at arms for the club, has been the resident pancake chef since 1974.
“That’s one of our best fundraisers and everything we make we put back into the community some how,” Payne said.
The fundraiser supports the club’s projects throughout the year.
For instance, one project the club has worked on is the beautification of the fountain area at Third and Center streets. Each year it also gives dictionaries to every third grader in Lawrence County as well as supporting a medical mission to the Philippines and a host of other projects.
“Just come down and help the club out and know you’re contributing to a good cause,” Clark said.
Tickets to the pancake breakfast will be a $5 at the door. Takeout is available.
