CHESAPEAKE — How would the Chesapeake Panthers react to the absence of Austin McMaster?
Pretty well.
With McMaster missing the game due to an eye problem, the Panthers didn’t miss a beat as they rolled past the Rock Hill Redmen 84-26 Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We shot the ball pretty well in the first half. I was concerned how we’d play without McMaster, but the kids stepped up and did their jobs,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis.
The fourth-ranked Panthers are now 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the OVC. Rock Hill fell to 4-8 and 1-4.
Nathan Copley picked up the scoring as he drained five 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead four Panthers in double figures.
Patrick Hintz and Eric Kennedy scored 12 points each and Colin Kennedy had 11.
Devin Darby scored 12 points to lead Rock Hill including three 3-pointers in the third quarter.
Copley hit four 3-pointers and Hintz and Colin Kennedy scored seven points each as Chesapeake built a 28-4 first quarter cushion.
Eric Kennedy came off the bench to score all 12 of his points in the second quarter and Copley had six as the Panthers surged ahead 58-7 at the half.
