WILLOW WOOD — Clarence Donald “Don” Wilson, 58, of Willow Wood, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. The Lawrence County native was born on May 14, 1952, to Olena Wilson of Pedro and the late Clarence Wilson. Don graduated from Symmes Valley High School in 1970 where he excelled in many sports and earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Rio Grande. On Aug. 10, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart Carla Jean Holderby. He worked as a butcher at Dickess Market and maintained the family farm. He was a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher for many years.
Besides his mother, surviving are his spouse Carla Jean (Holderby); daughter Shelly (Steve) Slone of Gallipolis; son Ryan (Kimilee) of Willow Wood; brother Danny Ray (Vickie) of Scottown; two sisters, Patricia Wilson (Daniel Wilburn) of Aid and Donna (John) Sheppard of Willow Wood; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Roger Pierce and Eddie Neel officiating. Burial will follow at Wilgus Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
