FRANKLIN FURNACE — Alberta June Mantz, 85, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at SOMC, in Portsmouth. The Huntington, W.Va., native was born June 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Albert and Venna Tackett Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Mantz, who passed away March 18, 1994.
Mrs. Mantz attended Ironton High School and was a former lieutenant for the Baltimore, Md.’s Sheriff’s Department. She was of the Protestant faith and a longtime vice president of the Democratic Club in Baltimore.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Forbush; two brothers, Rev. William “Bill” Jones and Frank Martin; and a nephew, Albert Berk Jones.
She is survived by a nephew, Bob and Karen Jones of Franklin Furnace; a sister-in-law, Patsy Jones of Franklin Furnace; and many great nieces and nephews.
