Symmes Valley fundraiser offers something for everyone

Symmes Valley High School will be a one-stop shop for food, entertainment, shopping, Christmas trees and last, but not least, Santa himself.

The event is a fundraiser for the SVHS band and will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday in the school band room and cafeteria. It is an effort to raise money for the band and help with the cost of paying for equipment, maintanance and other items that need to be purchased.

“Everyone will come in and enjoy breakfast with Santa,” said Robert Mann, SVHS band director. “Fresh-made pancakes made by our band parents. Those are good. They need to patent that stuff.”

Mann said musical entertainment will be provided by Felicity Jenkins, a seventh grader at Symmes Valley, who will play the piano.

Mann said they will also have their own version of Festival of Trees, including a silent auction of the decorated trees and a vote for the favorite.

“After you marvel at the trees, you get the opportunity to find a unique gift,” Mann said. “We’re having a lot of local craft folks here. People can pick up unique Christmas gifts, or even something for themselves.” He said there will be purses and candles and many other things to choose from.

“Santa Claus himself will be there to pose for pictures and hear any Christmas wishes,” Mann said. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to get a snapshot of their children with Santa.

The cost of the breakfast will be around $5. Much of the work will be done by parents and band members, and many others.

“It’s quite a community effort,” he said.

This is the second year for the event, and Mann said last year the event went very well and raised around $800, but is hoping to bring in a little more this year.

“We had a lot of success last year,” he said. “Our goal this year is to try to break from $1,000 to $1,200.”
