It’s time to run like the wind.
With cooler temperatures and wind in the forecast, local runners will battle the elements as well as the field as they compete in the state cross country meet Saturday at Scioto Downs.
Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ Taylor Hacker is making her second trip to the state meet, the first runner in school history to accomplish the feat. The senior standout runs at 1:20 p.m.
Ironton’s boys made school history as they qualified as a team in the Div. III meet. They run at 11:05 a.m.
The Fighting Tigers’ seven runners to compete are Gary Monroe, Pierce Reeves, Adam Stumbo, Dustin Moritz, Levi Runyon, Cody Wise and Tyler Lawless.
“We’ve been running well at the end of the season and I think we can run even better at the state meet,” said Ironton coach Tim Thomas.
Fairland junior Tanner Mattie will run in the Division II meet at 11:5 0 a.m.
Mattie ran a 16:34.5 time in the regional meet last Saturday at Troy High School to finish among the top 16 runners and get the state berth.
