Fairland’s Mattie earns trip to state

TROY — Tanner Mattie is still running.
Although the Fairland Dragons didn’t qualify for the Division II state cross country meet as a team, Mattie finished seventh overall and earned a trip to the state meet on Saturday at 11:50 a.m. at Scioto Downs in Columbus.
Mattie ran a 16:34.5 time in the regional meet on Saturday at Troy High School to finish among the top 16 runners and get the state berth.
Raine Wireman just missed as he finished No. 20 with a 17:03.9 time. Ryan Stewart was No. 34 at 17:31.8, Logan Rowe No. 87 at 18:25.8 and Chad McComas was No. 98 with an 18:40.7 time.
Rounding out the Fairland team runners were No. 119 Robbie Hinshaw at 19:18.3 and Dylan Hannon at No. 1124 with a 19:49.5 clocking.
Unioto won the team title with 85 points followed by Springfield Shawnee with 120 points. Kettering Alter was third a 126 and Brookville was fourth with 134 points.
Fairland finished with 198 points to place eighth in the 16-team field.
