SOUTH POINT — The streak is over.
It has been 13 years since South Point has won the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball championship. Since 2002, only River Valley has won the title.
That changed this season as the Lady Pointers shared the volleyball title with River Valley and gave South Point its first league title
South Point clinched a share of the title with a 25-12, 25-22, 26-24 win over Fairland last week.
The Lady Pointers and River Valley split their games this season and both finished 9-1 in the OVC. South Point won at River Valley in four sets and River Valley won on the road in five games.
River Valley has lost only three matches during its OVC tenure, all to South Point.
Leading the Lady Pointers were senior middle hitters Jalynn Bradburn and Brooke Lucas, libero Ashley Goodall, outside hitter Angelica Stewart, and setter Katelyn Leonard.
The team’s leading scorers were Goodall and sophomores Ella Daniels and Breanne Whaley.
In the Div. II sectional tournament Monday, South Point beat Jackson 25-12, 22-25, 25-16, 14-25 and 15-6 in the tiebreaker. The Lady Pointers play at Marietta Wednesday in the sectional finals.
South Point (15-3) plays its final regular season game next Monday at Green.
