CINCINNATI — Chad Ochocinco says he’s lost his confidence on the field. His plan for getting it back? Talk more trash.
The Bengals receiver acknowledged on Wednesday that he’s not playing up to his standards. He had a pass deflect off his hands for an interception in the final minute that helped Tampa Bay rally for a 24-21 win on Sunday.
“I haven’t been the Chad of old, the Chad that we’re all used to — the boisterous, sometimes borderline cocky, arrogant,” he said. “But that’s the way I am and that’s what everybody feeds off as a city and as an organization, and I haven’t been that.
“I think when I do come back (from the bye), I’m going back to the Chad of old.”
The challenge is to get back their offense of old.
The Bengals are 2-3 heading into their bye week and know they’re in trouble if they don’t get their offense moving. Ochocinco hasn’t done much trash talking this season, trying to take a more mature approach. He says it’s not working, so he’s going back to his old ways.
Ochocinco thinks the city and the team feed off his brash statements leading up to games. His coach won’t be happy — Marvin Lewis has tried to rein him in over the years.
