WATERFORD — Talk about your title fights.

The Green Bobcats and Waterford Wildcats went toe-to-toe for four quarters and then needed two overtimes before Waterford escaped with a 20-14 win Friday.

“We played with a lot of heart,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “It basically was the last team to make a play won the game.”

With the game tied at 14, neither team scored in the first overtime and Green failed to score on its possession in the second overtime.

The Wildcats then drove their 20 yards and scored on a 1-yard run by Levi Porter to end the game.

Waterford took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on an 8-yard run by Matt West but missed on the conversion try.

Green (3-4) used a big defensive play to take the lead as Rob Applegate scooped up a fumble and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown and Keith Stepp’s conversion kick put the Bobcats up 7-6.

But two minutes later, Trevor Lang hit Chad Offenberger with a 40-yard scoring pass and West ran for the conversion to make it 14-7 with 2:07 left in the half.

The Bobcats tied the game in the third quarter when Tyler Hughes broke loose on a 58-yard run followed by Stepp’s kick at the 8:25 mark.

Hughes finished with 119 yards on 22 carries as Green ran for 191 yard

Applegate also had two interceptions while T.J. McCloud had one interception.

Levi Porter had 117 yards on 22 attempts for Waterford (3-4).
