There is one thing coach Beth Campbell can expect from her Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers: the unexpected.
Ironton lost a four-game match Monday at Jackson, beat Boyd County, Ky., on the road Tuesday, and won an exciting five-set game over South Point on Wednesday.
“It’s like a roller-coaster with these girls. There’s always a surprise around the next hill or tunnel,” said Campbell.
Ironton lost 111-25, 25-22, 7-25 and 19-25 at Jackson on Monday.
Nikki Elswick had 10 kills and 10 blocks while Torie Klaiber had 10 blocks and 8 kills for Ironton.
Saige Fields scored 6 points — 5 aces — while Kaitlyn Hackworth had 5 points, Shannon Walker 4 and Colleen Walker 2.
Colleen Walker had 23 setting assists.
The Lady Fighting Tigers beat Boyd County 25-15, 2-25, 25-19 on Tuesday as Hackworth racked up 11 points and Colleen Walker 9.
Carly Kriebel, Elswick and Fields had 4 points each and Andi Kratzenberg 3.
Elswick knocked down 11 kills, Klaiber8, Fields 5 and Hackworth 4. Colleen Walker finished with 23 setting assists.
Ironton finished off the three games in three days stretch with a 25-22, 27-29, 19-25, 26-24, 15-4 win over the Lady Pointers.
“I’ve never seen my girls play with so much heart, passion and intensity and South Point was a very good team to beat,” said Campbell.
“It’s hard when a team plays this many games in a row. The girls never quit and only showed a few moments of being tired in the third game.”
Elswick had a dominating performance with a career high 29 kills and 17 blocks. Fields had 9 kills and Klaiber 7.
“Elswick did a great job controlling the net tonight,” said Campbell.
Colleen Walker had a game and career high with 40 setting assists as well as a career high of 31 points, 6 points coming in the final set as she teamed with Hackworth who had 7 points.
Shannon Walker had a game and career high of 13 digs and 8 points. Fields added 10 digs and a career high 13 points while Kratzenberg hussled her way to 12 digs and 4 points.
Fields also had 13 points that helped rally Ironton in the fourth set to tie the game at 2-2.
In the reserve matches, Ironton lost to Jackson 25-19, 26-24 as Hannah Thompson scored 6 points and Meghan Taylor and Amy McSorley 4 each.
Ironton beat Boyd County in two sets as Staci Cochran had 11 points, Maggie Thomas 5 and Ashton McMackin 4.
