WURTLAND, Ky. — Donald Brown, 76, of Wurtland, went to be with the Lord after a long illness, Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. Mr. Brown was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Greenup, Ky., a son of the late Kenneth W. and Stella Sparks Brown.
He was a 1952 graduate of Wurtland High School, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired electrical shop foreman from Armco Steel Corp. He attended Wurtland United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 89 in Greenup and the Electa Chapter 3 Order of the Eastern Star in Greenup. He worked on washers and dryers as a side job for about 30 years and was a Kentucky colonel.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Brown King; and a brother, Danny Joe Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey Jean Brown, whom he married on Sept. 28, 1956, at the Wurtland United Methodist Church; a daughter, Deborah “DeeDee” (Jerry) Scythes of South Shore; four grandchildren, Monica (Rick) Strickland, Jessica (Chris) Youngman, Dawn Brown-Piatt and Kayla (Kyle) Christy; and three great-grandchildren, Abby Strickland, Caleb Youngman and Eli Youngman.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wurtland United Methodist Church by Pastor James Deal, the Rev. Don Young and Earl Marshall. Burial will be in the Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup. Military rites will be performed by the James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276, South Shore. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and an hour before service at the church.
