LANCASTER — The Green Bobcats were winning the numbers game except for the number that really counted.

Green dominated the yardage game over the first three quarters but the Bobcats found themselves behind by 15 points. The Fairfield Christian Knights took advantage of Green turnovers and managed to take a 35-12 win Saturday night.

Green amassed 309 total yards and out-gained the Knights 103 to 18 in the first quarter alone only to find themselves down 7-6.

“A lack of execution on the offense led to an interception that they returned to the 10. So after we out-gained them 5-1 we were down 7-0,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

After the interception return, Kenny Johnson scored on a 1-yard run and Hayden Welch kicked the first of five extra points and the Knights led 7-0.

Green (2-2) got within 7-6 on a 1-yard scoring run by T.J. McCloud, but the Knights (4-0) took a 14-6 lead on another 1-yard TD run by Johnson.

The third quarter was a replay of the first quarter as Green racked up 105 yards to Fairfield Christian’s 35 but the Knights outscored the Bobcats 7-0.

Zach Sullivan intercepted a pass and ran it back 10 yards for a touchdown with 5:45 left in the third quarter to make it 21-6.

“We were in a formation that didn’t allow us to call the right pass protection that resulted in a quarterback pressure and an interception,” said McDavid.

Luke Johnson threw touchdown passes of 84 and 5 yards to Welch in the fourth quarter to help the Knights pull away to a 35-6 lead.

Green capped the scoring Chad Lewis ran 2 yards for a TD with 4:12 to play.

The Bobcats had 177 yards rushing and 132 passing. Fairfield Christian used a big fourth quarter to finish with 331 total yards including 177 through the air and 164 on the ground.
