Local poet Jane Skidmore Bennett will be at the Ironton branch of Briggs Lawrence County Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday to talk about and sign copies of her latest book of poetry, “A Light Still Shines.”
Of the book, she says “A Light Still Shines” is about waking up in the middle of life amongst all the rubble of the past and realizing the depth of grave mistakes in judgment and regrets. It is about adapting to a world that now stands.
This book covers ordinary footsteps and the thoughts of one, but I am sure is relatable to so many other people, for it deals with the challenge of being on the borderline, which is a daily challenge of going around in circles. It is about food addiction, rejection, past alcoholism, and a lifetime of inner turmoil. “A Light Still Shines,” is a continuance of my first book called “Blue In Bloom,” which was put out by Publish America in 2008.”
Avid gardeners find that early fall is the time to divide many plants and expand their gardens. If you have more of one variety of plant than you want to use and would like to try different plants, you’re invited to a Plant Swap at two Briggs Library locations at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Bring your healthy plant starts to the Southern Branch library in South Point and the Ironton library to trade and talk with fellow gardeners. For information call Chris Hunt at (740) 3277-2288.
Everyone interested in learning to crochet as well as those already experienced at the craft is invited to the Crochet Club at the Chesapeake Branch Library at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Beginners should bring a “G” or “H” hook and yarn. Experienced crafters may bring a current project. For information call (740) 867-3390.
The Briggs Library children’s department offers programs for homeschooling families twice a month at two locations.
