CHESAPEAKE — This was an epic battle.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers and Rock Hill Redwomen played five tough sets before the Lady Panthers won the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball match.
Rock Hill won the first set 26-24 and Chesapeake took the second 25-18. Rock Hill went up 2-1 with a 25-15 win, but the Lady Panthers battled back to win 25-22 and then won the hard-fought tiebreaker 18-16.
“It was one of the best matches I’ve seen in years,” said Chesapeake coach Dana Edwards. “Amanda Ruffner was on fire and Ashley Miller got us going in the second game. Rock Hill played well. Brittany Thompson had a fantastic game for them.”
Ruffner had 11 blocks and 7 kills while Miller had five aces in the second game.
In the reserve match, Rock Hill won in two sets 25-17, 25-23.
Chesapeake (5-3) plays at Ohio Valley Christian on Monday and hosts Coal Grove on Tuesday in a league match.
