Lady Dragons post VB victory

PROCTORVILLE — When things got tight, the Fairland Lady Dragons got loose.
In a tightly contested volleyball match, the Lady Dragons came away with a 3-1 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Tuesday.
Fairland won the first set 25-19, Ironton took the second set 26-24, the Lady Dragons then rallied from eight points down to win the third set 25-22 and capped the match with a 25-17 victory.
Kennon Clarkson scored 15 points for the Lady Dragons. Sashe Burcham had 9 points including 5 aces to go with 7 kills. Kamren Mendoza added 8 points and 10 kills, and Megan Evans got 9 points.
Saige Fields had 17 points and Andi Kratzenberg 10 for Ironton.
Fairland hosts Coal Grove at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Ironton entertains Rose Hill, Ky., Thursday and hosts its invitational beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.
St. Joseph at OVC
GALLIPOLIS — The St. Joseph Female Flyers are starting to see some light above the net.
The Female Flyers lost a tough five-set volleyball decision to the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders Tuesday, 25-20, 25-22,19-25, 22-25 and 10-15.
“We’re young and still learning, but we’re getting better,” said St. Joseph coach Mandy Thompson. “Sydney Hammond stepped up and had some nice digs.”
Katie Hacker led the Female Flyers with 17 points and four blocks. Hannah Martin finished with 14 points and two blocks.
St. Joseph hosts East Wednesday.
