COAL GROVE — Following a very successful inaugural 410 Sprint Car race in 2009, the Rocky Top Raceway is introducing a three-race “Sprint Car Summer Shootout Series” for the 410 Outlaw Sprint Cars this season.
The three-race mini-series is set to begin this Friday with the $1,500 to win “Buckeye 25.”
The 410 Sprint Cars will run a full program of hot laps, time trials, heat races, B-Mains, and the $1,500 to win “Buckeye 25” feature event.
In addition to the 410 Sprints, AMRA Modifieds, Bombers, and Mod Lites will also be on the racing card. Fans will also be in for a treat during time trials as the Sprint Car drivers will be looking to break Jimmy Stinson’s track record of 12.661 and record the fastest lap in RTR history.
With lightning fast speeds and thrilling on track action, 410 Outlaw Sprint Car racing has long been considered one of the greatest spectacles in all of motorsports.
At 900 horsepower and a weight of 1,300 pounds, only Formula One race cars have a greater horsepower to weight ratio than a 410 Sprint Car. Many of racing’s most successful drivers such as Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Ryan Newman were all successful Sprint Car racers before their NASCAR fame.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. with drivers’ meeting at 7 p.m. Sprint Car engine warm-ups are at 7:15 and hot laps will begin the on-track action at 7:30.
General admission is $12 with kids (age 7-12) general admission $2, kids six-and-under free, and pit passes are $27.
The $2 increase in pit admission is to cover the extra insurance costs associated with running Sprint Cars.
