COAL GROVE — A pot-bellied pig is in the care of a foster owner after being picked up by a dogcatcher in Coal Grove Monday.
The animal appears to have been a pet, said Alberta Wise, treasurer for the Lawrence County Humane Society.
“It was healthy looking,” Wise said.
Coal Grove Police Chief Eric Spurlock got the call around 1:30 p.m. Monday that a resident at the 200 block of Memorial Street had found the pig in the yard.
“Sure enough, I pulled up and it was laying in the mud,” Spurlock said.
Spurlock said if the owner would like to claim the pig, he or she may call the Coal Grove Police Department at 532-1533 before 1 p.m. Thursday.
The foster owner plans to keep the animal unless someone claims it, Wise said.
