On a day of first, Nikki Elswick had the biggest first of all.

Elswick slammed a three-run home run — the first at Ironton’s new softball field — and the Lady Fighting Tigers went on to christen their new facility with a 15-0 win Tuesday over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets.

“It was a great way to start the season with a win on the new field,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields “There has been a lot of hard work has gone into getting the fields ready to play.”

Ironton scored three runs in the first inning and erupted for 12 runs in the third inning highlighted by Elswick’s home run that cleared the right field fence.

Kylie Summers did not give up a hit in the four innings to get the win for Ironton. She struck out eight and walked one.

The Lady Tigers had 12 hits with Emily Lilly going 3-for-3. Elswick was 2-2, Taylor Lilly 2-3 and Brea Tackett had a double.

Ironton hosts Rock Hill Wednesday, South Point Thursday and Chesapeake Friday.
