PROCTORVILLE — It’s a big world after all.
South Point’s bulky 6-foot-4 inside trio of Ethan Prater, Cody Taylor and Greg Taylor dominated the boards as the Pointers beat the Fairland Dragons 64-57 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We thought we could attack them on the inside,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes. “Between our three post players we had 30 rebounds.”
Prater had 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the Pointers. Prater connected on 10 of 15 field goal attempts.
Cody Taylor yanked down 16 rebounds — 8 each on defense and offense — while Greg Taylor added 5 rebounds as South Point dominated the boards 35-16.
“Cody Taylor played real well and we shot the ball well again. We still had way too many turnovers,” said coach Barnes.
Junior guard Blake Barnes finished with 11 points and 6 assists as the Pointers (2-3) opened OVC play with a win.
Fairland (3-2, 1-1) was led by Chad Fisher with 26 points. Evan Salyers scored 16 in the losing effort.
After taking a 17-16 first quarter lead, South Point led 33-29 at the half and then went up by 10 to start the second half.
But Fairland scored 9 unanswered points and got within 43-42 to end the third quarter.
Prater took over and scored 6 straight points to open up a 7-point lead and the Dragons couldn’t get any closer the rest of the game.
