IRONTON — Kenneth Charles Howell, 84, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 after a sudden illness at Kings Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born April 9, 1925 the son of the late William and Selma Laber Benson.
Mr. Howell was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph High School and a United States Navy Veteran. He was a former Hamilton Township Trustee and was employed at S.S. Kresge’s for 38 years.
He retired in 2005 after serving 20 years as Lawrence County Treasurer. He was a member of Central Christian Church for 34 years and was a Deacon for the past 30 years. He was past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Lawrence County C.A.O., member of the Ironton Masonic Lodge, Ironton Country Club and an avid Ironton Tiger fan.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Richendollar Howell who he married May 4, 1947 and shared 62 wonderful years. He has twin daughters: Mrs. Stephen (Rayette) Kingery of Teas Valley, W.Va. and Ms. Joette Howell Johnson of Ironton. Two granddaughters, Mrs. Christopher (Tricia) Thompson of Ironton, Mrs. Jason (Tiffany) Witt of Hurricane, W.Va. and one grandson, Brent Roach of Ironton. Great grandchildren include Camron Roach of Ironton, London Brown of Ironton, Jenna Witt and Avery Witt both of Teas Valley, W.Va. One sister and brother-in-law: Joyce and James Schweickart of Ironton. Several nieces and nephews, James B. Schweickart of Ironton, Roma Brammer of South Point, Sue Lunsford of Ironton, Sheila Heskett of Mt. Vernon, Jim Richendollar of Ironton, Jack Richendollar of Ironton, Dale Richendollar of Ironton, Gale Richendollar of Ironton, Ruth Ann McFann of Fort Myers, Fla., Larry Richendollar of Florida and Chet Richendollar of Parkersburg, W.Va.,
Funeral service will be Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Central Christian Church with Minister Glen Wheeler and Minister Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by V.F.W. Post 8850.
