SOUTH POINT — Robert Wade “Bob” Smith, Sr. was surrounded by loved ones on Nov. 9, 2009, when he died at the age of 60.
Born Aug. 13, 1949, Bob was baptized at the Solida Baptist Church in South Point and attended the Poca High School in Poca, W. Va. He served in the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War and later served in the Army. Bob was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Romeo Sterling Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Martha Alice Moore of Elizabethtown, Ky.; his brother, Randall (Jenny) Smith of Mocksville, N.C.; his sister, Donna Jean (Gary) Mays, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and his four children, Robert Wade “Bub” (Pam) Smith, Jr. of Coal Grove, Angela Renee (Shawn) Burcham of South Point, Melissa Jo (Roger) Crank of Ironton and Wesley Allen (Sarah) Smith of Waverly. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Sean, Nathaniel, Tyler and Sashe’; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice of Portsmouth and Jo-Lin’s Nursing Home for all of their support.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery with military rites being conducted by Proctorville VFW Post 6878. Visitation will be 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home.
