INEZ, Ky. — The Sheldon Clark Cardinals didn’t treat the Fairland Dragons as their guests. It was more like that annoying little brother.

The Cardinals built a 34-7 halftime lead and cruised to a 47-21 win over the Dragons Friday.

“We just didn’t show up and they punished us for it. They took us out to the woodshed and beat us pretty good,” said Fairland coach Dave Carroll.

Sheldon Clark (3-1) racked up 385 yards offense behind a balance running game that saw three runners with 60 or more yards.

Matt Bloomfield was the lone bright spot for Fairland (2-2) as he ran eight times for 101 yards and caught a pass for 30. He scored twice.

Sheldon Clark took a 14-0 lead on a 25-yard run by Matt Slone and a 20-yard scamper by Brad Stafford.

Bloomfield got the Dragons within 14-7 on an 80-yard burst, but the Cardinals came back with three more touchdowns in the second quarter.

Slone ran 2 yards and it was 22-7.

Tyler O’Conner intercepted a pass and ran it back to the Fairland 8-yard line setting up a 19-yard TD pass from Austin Stepp to Cody Slone.

Stepp and Cody Slone hooked up again on a 14-yard scoring play with just 20 seconds left in the half and it was 34-7.

Brad Stafford had a 3-yard scoring run in the third quarter and the lead was 40-7.

Bloomfield scored on a 4-yard run to open the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to 40-14.
