Volunteers needed at Ohio Horse Park
Therapeutic riding volunteer trainings will be offered Sept. 2 and Oct. 6th at 6 p.m. at the Ohio Horse Park. Potential volunteers will need to attend one of those dates.

Volunteers are needed to help keep our riders with challenges in the saddle.

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeking mentors
ASHLAND, Ky. — Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State is recruiting mentors for their School-Based Mentoring and Community Based Programs.
Those interested in volunteering with the program are invited to Arby’s Restaurant at 1045 Winchester Ave. in Ashland on Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to talk with agency representatives.
Radio stations WKEE and WTCR will be on hand to promote the event. Those attending can sign-up for prize drawings.
Big Brothers are especially needed as more than 20 boys are waiting for a Big Brother, however Big Sister applicants are welcomed as well.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring program serving at-risk children needing friendship and guidance in both a School-Based Mentoring Program and a Community Based Program in the Ashland, Ironton, and Huntington area.

United Way applicant workshop set
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — United Way of the River Cities will conduct an applicant workshop on Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the United Way office, 820 Madison Ave.
Applications for 2010 funding will be due by 5 p.m. on Oct. 23.
Eligible applicants must be human service, non-profit organizations in good standing with federal and state law, and operate in at least one of the following counties – Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln, Mason in West Virginia and Lawrence in Ohio.
Agencies that are not currently funded partners may apply for United Way support but must do so collaboratively with a current United Way funded partner.
