ASHLAND, Ky. — Two new transfer agreements were added in the past year to expand the options for students who want to start at Ashland Community and Technical College and then transfer for a bachelor’s degree.
The transfer agreement with Marshall University in Early Childhood Education is designed for ACTC students in the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education program.
The new agreements with Shawnee State University in history, psychology, sociology, international relations, computer engineering technology and environmental engineering technology can help students in a variety of humanity, social science and science fields.
Transfer agreements are structured around the general education courses that make up the freshman and sophomore years at four-year institutions and that are the major component of associate in arts and associate in science degrees at ACTC.
The courses that lead to an Associate in Arts degree prepare students for transfer into humanities or social science fields, including education and pre-law.
An Associate in Science degree provides the background for a variety of science fields, including pre-med. ACTC offers a specific pre-engineering curriculum for students seeking transfer in electrical, chemical, civil and other engineering fields.
“The process of developing and implementing transfer programs involves collaboration among colleges and universities at the local, state and regional levels,” said Professor Dan Bailey, ACTC counselor and transfer adviser.
These collaborations are designed to assure students that their transfer courses that will be accepted and counted toward a bachelor’s degree.
