PEDRO — First, the South Point Lady Pointers dodged a bullet. Then they fired a couple of their own.

After throwing out two runners at third base in the first inning, the Lady Pointers scored the games only runs in the second inning as they slipped past the Rock Hill Redwomen 2-0 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Rock Hill put the ball in play, but we made the big plays when we really needed them,” said South Point coach Steve Baise.

“We came into this game knowing that defense would win the game and tonight our defense was the deciding factor. Everyone did a great job. It was a solid win for us.”

Chelsea Harper doubled with one out in the bottom of the first inning but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Jazel DeAutremont then doubled but stumbled coming around second base and was also thrown out.

Hannah Huron walked and Ashlee Kleinman singled to start the second for South Point. Ashley Goodall put down a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third.

Katelynn Leonard also bunted and the throw to first base was late and wild allowing both runners to score.

Huron scattered seven hits, struck out seven and did not issue a walk to get the win. DeAutremont took the tough loss as she gave up just four hits, struck out 11 and walked two.

The win enabled South Point (11-5, 7-3) to finished tied with Rock Hill (9-5,7-3) for second place in the OVC.
