Ironton freshmen win AIT

The Ironton freshmen have one final feather in their cap.
The Fighting Tigers freshman team won their second straight Ashland Invitational Tournament by beating the host Tomcats 59-56 on Thursday.
Wayne Evans — who had 34 points in the semifinal win — scored 23 points to lead Ironton. Michael Lawless and Nolan Johnson had nine points each, Jacob Rawlins scored seven, Cody Jones six, Schylar Fields three and Tyler Kratzenberg two.
Kelly Porter scored 23 for Ashland, Chris Prichard 11 and Kenny Barrett 10.
Ironton led 18-16 after the first quarter and 32-25 at the break.
Ashland used a 14-0 run at the end of the third quarter that spilled into the fourth quarter to take a 45-43 lead.
But Evans converted 6-of-8 from the line over the final four minutes as Ironton rallied for the win.
Ironton, playing its fourth game of the week, finished the season 15-1.
In the consolation game, West Carter beat Wheelersburg 41-31.
