ATHENS — The third time wasn’t so charming.

The third quarter proved to be the thorn in the side of South Point on Saturday as the Pointers fell 60-56 to the Vinton County Vikings in the Holzer Classic at Ohio University.

The Pointers (2-1) held a 25-19 halftime lead, but were outscored 20-7 in the third quarter and fell behind 39-32.

“We had a real bad third quarter and didn’t take care of the ball,” said Pointers coach Gary Norris. “They shot real well in the third quarter and we didn’t and that was pretty much the game.”

The Vikings Ethan Allen had 12 of his 16 points in the second half including eight in the third quarter.

Cody Taylor scored seven points in the second quarter to put the Pointers ahead after trailing 13-12.

Drew Lynd and Jordan Fletcher combined for 13 points in the fourth quarter, but the Pointers comeback bid fell just short.

Lynd led the Pointers with 13 points and Taylor added nine.
