It’s that time of year again, dog owners, time to make (or keep) that pet legal.

Lawrence County dog tags went on sale Dec. 1 and will be on sale at various locations through Jan. 31.

Ohio law requires all dog owners to purchase a license for each dog. The cost is $10 per dog and $50 for each kennel license. Who needs a kennel License?

“Anyone who has more than five dogs,” Lawrence County Deputy Auditor Deena Deeds explained.

The dog tags are on sale at the auditor’s office as well as the Lawrence County Dog Pound, Chesapeake Veterinary Clinic, South Point Petland, Moore’s Hardware in Proctorville, Tipton’s Mini-Mart on State Route 93 near Ironton and Dickess Market in Aid.

Dog tags may also be purchased by mail at the auditor’s office and dog pound.

In years past, the Lawrence County Commission has extended the sale period through February but has not yet done so.
