OAK HILL — All-Ohio guard Mandi Boykin went to the bench in the second quarter with her third foul. When she got there, she found out she had four.

And so it went for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers as their late comeback attempt fell short in a 60-50 loss to the Oak Hill Lady Oaks Saturday afternoon.

Ironton was called for 25 fouls to just 10 for Oak Hill. The Lady Oaks were 17 of 33 at the foul line and Ironton 5 of 8.

There was also a problem with the possession arrow that never changed in the second quarter as Oak Hill got four straight possessions including one to start the second half instead of Ironton.

Despite all the things that went against Ironton, coach Doug Graham was only concerned with the way the Lady Tigers played.

“We just didn’t play well in every facet of the game,” Graham said. “We didn’t rebound, we didn’t play defense except in spurts, and we didn’t handle adversity well. We have to be a better road team.”

Jessica Waddle scored 16 points to lead Ironton (6-2) while Boykin had 14 points, 8 in the fourth quarter in the comeback run. She sat out the entire third quarter.

Oak Hill (8-1) was led by Lacy Adkins with 19 points. Karla Moore had 15 points and Jill Phillips 12.

The Lady Oaks were 21 of 45 from the field including 13 of 27 in the first half as they took a 32-23 lead.

With Boykin out in the third quarter, Ironton was only 3 of 11 from the field and fell behind 47-27 before a short runner by Brea Tackett and a 15-footer by Merecedes Crockrel cut the deficit to 47-31.

Karissa Adkins scored for the Lady Oaks to start the fourth quarter and it was 49-31.

Kayla Wileman then hit an 18-footer, Boykin got a steal and layup and Waddle drained a trifecta and the deficit was 49-38 with 4:28 left.

Down 54-44 with 2:06 left, Tackett sank a foul shot, Waddle hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game and Boykin had another steal and layup to get Ironton within 54-50 with 52 seconds on the clock.

But Kaylin Marshall and Phillips converted two foul shots each and it was 58-50 with 24 seconds to play. Moore had a meaningless layup at the buzzer to set the final score.

Ironton hosts Gallipolis next Saturday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.
