Lady Fighting Tigers drop SEOAL opener

GALLIPOLIS — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers got off on the wrong foot.

Ironton began volleyball play in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League on a losing note as the Lady Tigers fell 12-25, 19-25 and 18-25 to the Gallipolis Blue Angels.

Ironton was led in scoring by Jessica Seevor with 10 points. Mandi Boykin had five points, Michelle Pancake four, and Nikki Harbolt and Jessica Weaver two each.

Boykin and Seevor had four aces each. Seevor had six setting assists and five kills with Boykin getting five setting assists.

Rachel Walker led with four blocks to go with a kill. Boykin had three blocks and Kayla Wileman had five kills.

Ironton (1-1) plays at Wayne, W.Va., Wednesday and at Portsmouth Thursday in an SEOAL game.

Lady Vikings sweep three SOC matches

WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings made their first week in the Southern Ohio Conference a clean sweep.

Last Wednesday, the Lady Vikings beat New Boston in five games, 22-25, 25-27, 25-15, 25-17, 15-2.

Tiffany Bryant had 23 points and 21 kills, Emily Bowling 18 points and 24 kills, and Natasha Pointer scored 17 points in the win.

In the reserve match, the lady Vikings won 25-19, 26-24 as Hailey Pelletier scored 14 points and Nina Mullins 9 points.

On Thursday, Symmes Valley swept Western Pike 25-17, 25-17, 25-10 as Pointer scored 20 points.

Bowling had 19 points and 16 kills while Bryant recorded 13 kills.

The junior varsity lost in straight sets, 19-25, 13-25. Mullins led the Lady Vikings with 8 points.

The third match was Tuesday as the Vikings knocked off Portsmouth Notre Dame 25-15, 25-13, 25-15.

Bowling led the way with 18 points and 10 kills. Pointer scored 17 points and Bryant racked up 12 kills.

The Lady Vikings won in the jayvee match 25-14, 13-25, 26-24. Kathryn Meyers and Chelsea Wall had 12 points each and Jamie Wilson 11 to pace the Vikings.

Symmes Valley, 4-0 and 3-0 in the SOC, plays at Fairland at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
