Travel World to visit American Idol tour

Are you suffering from post-Idol depression?
Oh, the signs are easy enough to spot. First, you’ll go through the “Judge’s” phase, where you insult people with a British accent, apologize for what you just said and then you call people your “Dawg.” Before you know it, you’ll be fully in its throws and shouting “Soul Patrol!” at inappropriate times.
Luckily, Travel World is providing a cure for withdrawal from the world’s most popular talent search. The Ohio University Southern-owned company will be taking a busload of Idolheads to see their favorites perform in Columbus at the Value City Arena on Aug. 11.
The top 10 performers from the series are part of the “American Idol Live!” tour, including country cutie Kellie Pickler, heartthrob Ace Young and the booming pipes of Mandisa.
Carol Cox, manager of Travel World and the trip’s organizer, has a confession to make: The trip, in some small way, isn’t all strictly business.
“We’re big American Idol fans, me and Tina (Canter, another Travel World employee)” Cox said. “We just knew that it was something that a lot of people from this area liked. A lot of people are big fans.”
Idol is so popular, in fact, that the American Idol tour stop in Huntington, W.Va. (not held until September) were sold out in 15 minutes. Now, those who’d like a second chance have one with the Columbus trip.
But those interested had better hurry, because Cox was apparently right about the series’ popularity.
Already, there are fewer than 20 seats left on the 47-person bus headed to the concert.
The bus will leave Ironton around 2 p.m. before arriving in Columbus for the concert around 7 p.m. The price for the bus seat and ticket is $89, which must be paid in person at Travel World, 1804 Liberty Ave.
But be forewarned: Those who follow Cox on the trip should be prepared for a little extra screaming whenever soul-singing Idol winner Taylor Hicks takes the stage. But, she said, fans of any stripe can attend; no matter who they voted for in the finals.
“Yeah, even if they didn’t like Taylor, they’ll be able to go,” Cox said with a laugh.
