A South Point woman accused of drug charges and a Proctorville man accused of stealing cars were among those people entering guilty pleas Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Jeff Elswick, 18, of 1621 S. Fourth St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to trafficking in marijuana and possession of criminal tools. McCown sentenced him to four years community controlled sanctions under intensive supervised probation and ordered him to successfully complete a rehabilitation program at STAR Community Justice Center. He will be given credit for time served in jail awaiting resolution of his case.

Also Wednesday, Norman Fulks II, 30, of 115 Township Road 111, Proctorville, pleaded guilty on a bill of information to one count each of breaking and entering and burglary. McCown sentenced Fulks to four years in prison on the burglary charge and 11 months in prison for the breaking and entering charge, to be served concurrently. If he is accepted into a rehabilitation program at STAR and if he exhibits good behavior in prison, Fulks may receive judicial release after six months.

“Judicial release is something the court must do,” McCown told Fulks. “It is up to me to decide if you get out and if nothing happens to create problems while you’re in prison, I may accept the agreement on the judicial release.”

A Proctorville man pleaded guilty to the charges against him Wednesday after a mental health evaluation concluded he was mentally competent to stand trial.

Johnny D. Lewis, 23, of 6451 County Road 12, was sentenced to 12 months in prison on one count each of receiving stolen property, grand theft and attempt to commit grand theft. All sentences will run concurrently

When asked if he had anything to say, Lewis told the court he was thankful “the prosecutor gave me a chance to change my ways.”
