Monday may have been the first day of spring but the weather forecast is definitely more wintery than warm.
This morning a sleet and snow mixture canceled some Ohio schools and reminded area residents that this time of year, Mother Nature can be extremely unpredictable.
National Weather Service meteorologist Fred McMullen said the pattern of alternating rain, sleet and snow will continue for the rest of this week, but will likely be a little consequence.
“Mostly it’s just going to be what we call ‘white rain’. It will be too warm to accumulate on anything,” he said. “It’s mostly going to be a grassy thing. Since it is going to be warm it will be harder for anything to accumulate on streets. We’ll get mostly a slushy accumulation, if anything.”
While parts of Ohio to the north and east of Lawrence County may see 1-3 inches of snow this week, McMullen said it is more likely our area will get only an inch slushy snow by Wednesday.
The forecast calls for snow showers early this evening with a low of 23 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
On Wednesday, expect partly cloudy skies with a high temperature near 44 degrees and an overnight low near 25 degrees. Thursday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, with a high temperature near 45 degrees and an overnight low near 28 degrees.
Friday, expect mostly cloudy skies, with a high temperature near 41 degrees and an overnight low near 28 degrees. The chance of precipitation Friday is 30 percent.
